Abstract

The high prevalence of smoking among Korean men is the most probable cause of smoking-related deaths. Nonetheless, there were only a few studies that have examined the risk of smoking on mortality. Given very different patterns in the relative risks of smoking on mortality among Asian and Western countries, there is a need to assess the effects of smoking based on local data. The purpose of this paper was to provide a summary of relative risks (RRs) of smoking-attributable mortality in Korean adults and to gain insights about research gaps in order to support the national tobacco control policy.
